In United States L1 visa is a non-immigrant visa which allows companies functioning both in the US and abroad to transfer specific classes of employee from its foreign operations to the USA operations for a period of up to seven years. The employee must have worked for a subsidiary, or branch office of your United States company outside of the United States for at least  a period of one year out of the last three years.

There are two types of employees who may be sponsored or given eligibility for USA L1 visas: one type of an employee are Managers/Executives and second type of an employee are specialized knowledge staff.

 

 In particular, the executive or manager should have managerial responsibility for professional staff and/or on, department or subdivision of the employer. Such personnel are issued an L1A visa, primarily for a three year period extendible in two year increments to a maximum of seven years.

The second category covers those with knowledge of the company's products/services, research, systems, proprietary techniques, management, or procedures.  Staff in this category are issued an L1B visa, initially for three years extendible to a maximum of five years.

To eligible for an L-1 visa, United States company which transfers an employee must have a branch, subsidiary, affiliate or joint venture partner of non-U.S. employer. Employment in the United State company must be role as a manager, executive or person with specialized knowledge and skills etc.

 

There are certain limitation for L1 visa , work only for the United States employer who performed as an employee L-1 visa sponsor. Should get visa approval or permit for the period up to three years. Extensions are allowed for two years at a time until an employee should be in United states for a total period of seven years.

 L-1 Blanket petition is a procedure in which a very large company can previously pre-qualify to transfer their L-1 employees. When the L-1 Blanket is approved, the company can transfer personal to the United States  rapidly  and with a short notice without having to file a petition with USCIS again. If an employers fires on an employee who are transferred on L1 visa, can find a new job with a short grace period and approval from USCIS.
